Robbers with sledge hammer attack bank

DETECTIVES are looking for masked raiders who burst into a village bank armed with a sledgehammer and a crowbar.

Police were called to the Yorkshire Bank in High Street, Queensbury at 10.12am yesterday after they received reports of a robbery.

Two masked men had gone in with the sledgehammer and a crowbar.

The pair escaped soon after empty-handed.

They got into a black BMW which was later found by police burned out in Chapel Lane in Queensbury.

No one was injured during the incident.

The bank was cordoned off by police yesterday as investigations were carried out.

Detectives say they are appealing for anyone who witnessed the men enter the bank or drive away in the vehicle to come forward with information.

They also want to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle being abandoned.
