Rossendale v FC Halifax Town: New boots do it for Gedman
PAUL Gedman had the perfect remedy to a lack of goals since he became a permanent Halifax Town player - new boots.
Having bagged five goals in his first three games on loan at the Shay from Droylsden in September, Gedman had gone three starts without netting since returning to the Shay at the start of the month.
But he ended that mini-drought with am emphatic left-foot strike in Saturday's 3-1 win over Chorley at the Shay.
And he admitted it was a great weight off his shoulders.
"I fall out with my boots quite easily," he said.
"And they had not done me well in the previous three games, so I got new ones.
"I had been putting myself under pressure after not scoring in three games.
"I was feeling like I was getting a little bit worked up in games, a bit frustrated.
"It was brilliant to do it in front of the home supporters."
Despite not scoring, Gedman had played his part in Town's winning run, which is now up to a club record equalling seven league games.
But he still needed to see the ball hit the back of the net from one of his own shots to be completely happy.
"It is a personal thing with strikers," he said.
"The first question you are asked when you get back home is - Did you score?
"I need to score goals to feel good even when we are winning and I am contributing."
Town will go in search of an eighth successive league win when they travel to Rossendale United on Saturday.
And, after they came from a goal down at the break to beat Chorley, Gedman is certain that they will be able to extend their run.
"I cannot see us losing at the moment," he said. "We are not playing particularly well, but we are doing enough.
"We know when we need to turn it up.
"We responded after the break and that was good.
"This team will not lie down. We know what we need to do to win games."
Bamber Bridge, currently second in Unibond One North behind the Shaymen, entertain 10th-placed Mossley this evening and can go level on points with Halifax.
But they would need to win by seven clear goals to overtake Jim Vince's side on goal difference.
