Shoppers in the Christmas spirit in Sowerby Bridge raised £750 for the Overgate Hospice, which was handed over to the home by the town’s rotary club.

Janet Cawtheray, CEO of Overgate Hospice, received the cheque from President Ken Forsyth on behalf of the Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge.

Olwen Edwards, from the Rotary Club, said: “We want to say a big thank you to all who supported the well attended visit of Father Christmas to Sowerby Bridge at Tesco on 24th December.

“We would also like to say an especially a big thank you to the Rotary Club of Elland for the loan of their sleigh.”

The Sowerby Bridge Rotary Club were also in a charitable mood with the visit of Clara White, fundraising manager from Macmillan Cancer Support, who explained to the members the work the charity does.

A heartfelt vote of thanks for the work done by the organisation was then given by Michael Holdsworth.
