Halifax Calder Rotary has been awarded the annual Community Service Award out of over 1,800 clubs in the British Isles Rotary International Awards.

The award was presented to Halifax Calder president Elaine Bowers, pictured, by former district governor of Rotary in Yorkshire, Ken Robertson, at the National Conference of Rotary in Birmingham.

President Elaine Bowers said the award was a tremendous accolade and reward for all the hard work members of Halifax Calder give in supporting different aspescts of the community in Halifax and internationally.

Halifax Calder club members have assisted in Polio immunisation in India and humanitarian projects in Tanzania - where they helped refurbish a hospital and provided water filters and books to schools.

Mrs Bowers said: “Our members regularly work with students in schools, organise social events for disabled people, environmental projects, fit smoke alarms in conjunction with the fire service, marshal community events and much more.

The fact we have been recognised for the hard work our members put into the community is fantastic.”
