Rugby League: Parker looking for new blood to impress
Ovenden play host to Saddleworth Rangers in their penultimate NCL Summer Competition fixture tomorrow (2.30).
The game has been switched to Ovenden's Four Fields complex after ground problems forced Rangers to concede home advantage.
The home side will be looking to press home their top of the table position against a Saddleworth side whose recent form has been disappointing.
Coach Chris Parker will be calling on recent new signings to continue Ovenden's good form after last week's 42-12 cruise against a feisty Rochdale Mayfield outfit.
Parker will not be spoilt for choice as the new faces are certain to want to impress which will give an added edge against Saddleworth.
Amongst the new recruits is ex-Halifax and Halifax Irish speedster Grahame Charlesworth, who returns to his former junior club for the summer season.
Joining him from the Irish will be Ash Taylor, Luke Sandlands (Keighley and Siddal), Chris Gott (Keighley), and Ben Benn (Siddal).
Other new summer competition signings could also find a place in the final line up if they catch tonight's signing on deadline.
Secretary Joe Collins said: "There has been a lot of interest from players from other clubs thinking about a run out with us in summer rugby.
"It is a chance for players to have a look at us and to enjoy the game in front of an appreciative crowd"
Liam Walsh and Shaun Smith are doubtful but Parker is confident that his side can keep the momentum going until the end of the season.
"We will be looking to repeat the good form of last week for these two remaining fixtures against Saddleworth Rangers," said Parker.
"We are looking for plenty of points and good defence to improve our points difference which could be brought into play at the top of the table and progress to the play-offs.
"The game will also provide the new summer signings a chance to see what we have to offer as a progressive National Conference club."
