Cycling enthusiasts can ride the route of next year’s Tour de France as part of a special event organised by the Calderdale Touring Club.
Le Tour en Calderdale will offer cyclists the chance to test themselves on the Tour’s terrain, taking them from Sowerby Bridge market to Illingworth Moor and Elland before finishing at the Jubilee Refreshment Rooms at Sowerby Bridge Railway Station.
Organiser Chris Crossland said: “We’re inviting local cyclists to join us on 7 July to ride the Calderdale part of the 2014 Tour.
“I’m hoping that all those who take part will ride safely, but if they do so then they can attack a significant climb or two and imagine themselves in the yellow jersey if they want.
“If they prefer to ride a little slower and be last, the “lanterne rouge” placing, that’s fine too, as is everything in between.
“What matters is that we all enjoy the ride and the stunning countryside, riding together in the company of others.
“All those who take part will understand the unique challenge of the Tour a little better, and hopefully will come back for more cycling this year and next.”
Registration on the day starts from 8.15am and the event begins at 9.30am.

Meanwhile, an open meeting will be held at Rossendale Borough Council Chamber in Bacup, between 6pm and 7.30pm on Monday, July 1, to discuss the business and community potential of the Tour.
