Ben Roberts of Halifax will join 32 of his colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group to cycle 500km across Costa Rica.
Ben who works at the branch in Leeds is hoping to raise £140,000 collectively for the bank’s charities of the year Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland. This November will will cycle from Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast in just seven days.
Ben said: “My Grandma passed away with Alzheimer’s in February, after living with the disease for five years. Alzheimer’s Society provided a lot of help and support to my family over this time, enabling us to care for my grandma from home, which is where she wanted to be.
“I want to give something back to Alzheimer’s Society for all their help. As a keen mountain biker, the Costa Rica challenge is the perfect opportunity. I feel like this is my chance to raise money to help others to access the support we had and also pay my last respects to my Gran.”
The money raised through the challenge will support Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group’s pioneering ‘Live Well’ programme which is about to be rolled out nationally across the UK.
Graham Lindsay, Responsible Business Director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Colleagues voted overwhelmingly to choose Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland as charity of the year and have really embraced the opportunity to raise money in the fight against dementia. I’d like to wish Ben, Nicola and the rest of the Costa Rica challengers the best of luck over the coming months, with their fundraising and training in advance of this exciting charity challenge.”
