A CALDERDALE schoolgirl will be helping a pair of big friendly giants next month.

Newfoundland dogs Dylan and Alfie will haul Christmas trees in the Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire, in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. And helping to handle the hounds will be Rosie Irving, 15, who goes to Brighouse High. The dogs are owned by her aunt, Joanne.

Joanne said: “We’ll be using carts pulled by the dogs and asking for donations for the air ambulance and mountain rescue services.” Newfoundlands are fantastic swimmers, using a canine version of breast stroke and are still used as water-rescue dogs.
