Dr Who and the Blues Brothers were the among the stars of the show in Northowram - as the village celebrated its Scarecrow Festival.

Dozens of scarecrows, modelled on film and TV characters and cartoon creations lined the streets, for a popular trail over the bank holiday weekend to delight residents and visitors alike.

In first place for the 2013 scarecrow festival was Mrs Chuck and Her Hens, created by Kath and Tony Shepard. Elvis came in at second place, entered by Wayne and Denise Morrill and third place went to Cruella De Vill and 101 Dalmations submitted by the Amsells.

Pubs including the Yew Tree Inn, the Shoulder of Mutton, and the Windmill offered refreshments and musical entertainment throughout the three day festival.

Rock Band Headstock and Blues band Red Star performed at the Yew Tree while Northowram community centre hosted its very own Northowram’s Got Talent on Saturday night.

A three-legged pub crawl between the village pubs was held on the final day of the festival.

Organiser Andy Garrett, landlord of the Yew Tree Inn, said: “It’s hard work to pull it all off but it’s always worth it.

“There’s been some exceptional efforts gone to. I would like to thank the whole of the village and people who attended from surrounding areas - for giving the village a whole new lease of life.”
