Youngsters are exploring the great outdoors thanks to new developments at their Calderdale schools.

In Halifax, children at Savile Park Primary School have been celebrating the opening of a new outdoor classroom.

A spokeswoman for the school said; “Children learn through experience and also learn well outdoors.

“Our children are very pleased with and excited about their new classroom which we have wanted for a while.”

Meanwhile, children at St Michael’s and All Angels Primary School in Shelf have the use of a new garden.

The space has been created in the school grounds to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee year.

It will be used to teach pupils about sustainability.

Mayor of Calderdale John Hardy and Mayoress Janet Hardy visited the school to officially open the garden.
