A pioneering DVD filmed at a Calderdale high school will soon be helping youngsters manage their diabetes.

Youngsters with the Type 1 condition are the stars of the video, filmed at Brighouse High School, and they are featured explaining to teachers how they should be supported in the most effective way.

Developed by the Children’s Diabetes Team at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, and will be sent to all schools ahead of the new start of term this September. A special “Oscars” first night will be held on Friday, August 30, at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Rose Hagreen, the Trust’s Children’s Diabetes Support Worker, said: “We asked young people with diabetes already in our care to deliver the education within the DVD as they are the ones who truly understand the issues that they face on a day to day basis.”
