A youth band has received a £20,000 boost from the region’s Freemasons.

The grant came courtesy of the Provincial Grand Master’s Fund and has enabled the Queensbury Scout Band to buy new equipment and help get more young people learning musical instruments.

Instruments already purchased include a xylophone, two vibraphones and a marimba, as well as a truck to transport their instruments to competitions.

The band showed off their new kit at the Academy Brass Championships in Barnsley, where they walked away with awards for best brass section, drill, visual effect and ensemble visual.
