Scout receives national awards

An explorer scout will be among the royals when she receives two top national youth awards.

Laura Watson, a Rastrick High School student, has achieved her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award which she will be presented with at St James’ Palace, London, next month by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH Prince Edward.

The Brighouse District explorer scout will also receive her Queen’s Scout Award, the highest award in scouting, which will be presented at the national St George’s Day parade at Windsor Castle in April.

Laura received the awards for her work in the community for several years.

She said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences which have enabled me to participate in many activities and make lots of new friends whilst developing my life skills.”
