THIEVES have stolen 23 sheep from a farm at Sourhall Moor in Mankinholes.
Police believe the sheep-hustlers cut fences around the field before escaping with the animals at around noon on Monday, January 9.
Last night, one of the remaining sheep was attacked by a dog and had to be put down.
Sergeant Damon Walker, from the Upper Valley neighbourhood policing team, said a vehicle must have been used during the theft to take the sheep away.
“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed someone behaving suspiciously to contact police,” he said.
“Wildlife crime is taken very seriously, as in this case, the livelihood of this particular farmer has been affected at a time of year when sheep are in lamb.”
Anyone who has any information is urged to call PC Lisa McDonald via 101.
