The Labour party is set to announce its shortlist of three candidates to stand for the Halifax Parliamentary seat at the General Election in May after Linda Riordan MP announced last month that she will be standing down.

An all-women longlist of six candidates has been selected by the party - Holly Walker-Lynch, Jo Coles, Dot Foster, Susan Hinchcliffe, Naveeda Ikram and Jenny Lynn.

Holly Walker-Lynch is a Labour activist from Halifax who works as a communications officer for Linda McAvan MEP.

Jo Coles works as a political aide to Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls MP in his Leeds constituency.

Dot Foster represents Sowerby Bridge on Calderdale Council.

Susan Hinchcliffe is a Bradford councillor with a background in business.

Naveeda Ikram is also a Bradford councillor.

Jenny Lynn represents Park ward on Calderdale Council.

The final shortlist is expected to be announced later today.
