POLICE have been visiting homes in part of Calderdale handing out advice on beating burglars.

Officers from the Lower Valley neighbourhood policing team have been speaking to residents in Bailiff Bridge and Rastrick, speaking to householders and posting leaflets to households where no one was in.

They said their aim was to offer people simple and straight forward advice on preventing their houses being targeted by thieves.

Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who leads the team, said: “Only by working together can we defeat burglars.

“There are some very simple steps people can take to make their house unattractive to a burglar.

“And the more people follow them the more we all make life difficult for burglars.

“Criminals are travelling in to the Lower Valley area to commit crime and we need people to be our eyes and ears and to report anything suspicious to police.

“My message is simple – help me to help you.”

Crime Prevention techniques include always keeping doors locked and not leaving valuables on show. Keep car keys in a safe place out of view and invest in good locks.
