CALDER Valley Search and Rescue Team has six new heroes in the making.

Steve Mason, John McGowan, Lee Thornton, Murray Chalmers, Paul Taylor and Mark Rose have all been added to the Mytholmroyd-based squad’s callout list after completing a tough nine months of specialist training.

Team leader Al Day said the new intake had what it took and were up to the task.

“We need a special sort of person who can drop whatever it was they were doing and head up onto the moors in all weathers to come to the aid of people who are lost and injured,” he said.

“They need to be fit, caring and able to use their initiative. These new lads have got what it takes and have already proved their worth on recent calls at Stanbury, Rishworth Moor and Lydgate.”

The team, which is funded entirely by voluntary donations, has had a busy year so far with 45 emergency calls recorded already.
