Slavery talk at the library

Halifax historian David Glover is giving a lecture on Calderdale’s fight against slavery tonight.

The talk at King Cross Library at 7pm is entitled ‘Halifax Parish and the Slave Trade - The Saints’.

It will detail local residents who supported the Abolition movement, including a vicar of Halifax who was born on a slave-owning estate in Barbados, yet later supported Abolition.

The lecture follows on from his talk last year which detailed Calderdale’s negative connections with the slave trade.

The event is free, though donations towards the St Augustine’s Centre for Refugees will be welcomed.
