Fireworks lit up the sky above Halifax on Saturday as crowds packed into the town centre for the Christmas lights switch-on.

The event featured stacks of entertainment, plus special guests including pantomime star Neil Hurst, the Mayor of Calderdale Howard Blagbrough and Pulse 1 Breakfast Show hosts Danny and Rosie.

There was also a live choir, dance performances, children’s entertainment, a spectacular display from a group of fire eaters and a guest appearance from Father Christmas himself.

And for those who were looking to snap up some Christmas presents, a market on The Woolshops cobbles offered tasty treats and local crafts.

The day ended with a stunning fireworks display, sponsored by Broad Street Plaza, and the external north wall of The Piece Hall was illuminated with a bespoke animated illustration.
