Rugby stars turned out in force as friends, family, fans and colleagues united to celebrate the life of Danny Jones.
Fresh from her courageous Challenge Cup Final appearance, Lizzie Jones opened the main game in song at a fundraising match in honour of her husband.
The event saw a Halifax Select 13 play World Select 13 at the Mbi Shay Stadium.
Lizzie’s husband and former Halifax player Danny passed away in May this year after he suffered a heart attack playing for Keighley Cougars against London Skolars.
Wembley winner and Halifax legend, Mick Scott coached the Halifax select 13’s, and Robbie Hunter Paul captained the World side.
Among the players to return to the Shay included Rob Worrincy, Danny Tickle, Bob Beswick, Damian Ball and Scott Law.
Other Super League stars to play were Lee Briers, Mark Calderwood, Paul Sculthorpe and Sean Long.
Danny Jones’ first amateur club, King Cross Park, and local side Ovenden combined as they took on the best of Calderdale in a 40 minute full contact match.
