A SOLDIER fled from police after crashing a car into another vehicle.
Craig Beaumont, 19, of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Wiltshire, originally from Westgate Centre, Halifax, ploughed into a Toyota in Brighouse after drinking, Calderdale magistrates heard.
Police followed Beaumont after seeing him driving erratically on Brookfoot Industrial Estate with a car full of passengers.
Beaumont sped off, failing to give way at two junctions. At Halifax Road his car hit a Toyota, shunting it through metal barriers on the opposite carriageway.
Beaumont ran from the car, abandoning his passengers.
But he returned later to admit the crimes.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while over the limit and driving without insurance.
He was given a community order of 12 months with supervision for 12 months and was told to attend a drink driving programme.
He was disqualified from driving for three years and told to pay £340 costs.
The presiding chairman said: “It is to your credit you surrendered and made full admissions.”
