Sowerby Bridge Fire and Water project is holding its annual general meeting on Saturday, February 14 at 11am at The Works on Hollins Mill Lane.

After the meeting there will also be guided walks of the swimming pool, fire station and council offices so members can see how the work is progressing. Anyone who would like to become a member of Fire and Water is invited to the meeting. The tours will take place at 12.30pm.

Phil Hawdon said that the aim of the project is to create premises to provide training and to house arts, music and cultural events, as well as providing space for other community activities.

“The creation of a community centre on its own is not enough. The site also provides some commercial areas to provide an income from like-minded companies to ensure the sustainability of the community centre and the creation of new jobs for the town. This includes the provision of space for craftsmen, artists, and other sole traders,” he added.
