The Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow spoke at the launch of the second Halifax Minster Debate Series tonight (Thursday).

The latest debate series commemorated one of Mr Bercow’s famous predecessors - J.H Whitley - a Halifax MP who presided over the Commons in the 1920s.

Hundreds of people attended the speech delivered by Mr Bercow at the Halifax Minster on the topic of young people and politics.

John Bercow said that he didn’t “accept that young people are disengaged from politics.

“There has been a revolution in the way people interact with one another and it’s the young that adapted to this most.”

The event was chaired by the Bishop of Pontefract, The Rt Revd Tony Robinson, who thanked everyone for attending.
