An Irish landlady is rallying the community to enjoy St George’s Day today at her pub.

Alison Priestley and her husband Richard, of the Queen Victoria, Northowram, have organised family fun to mark the occasion.

“We had a big St Patrick’s Day celebration and people were asking what would happen for St George’s Day as nothing usually does,” she said.

“I’m an Irish landlady in an English pub and thought we will support the day.”

A hog roast will be served at lunchtime and local artist Gemma Longbottom has created a “St George and the Dragon” board with cut-outs for a kids’ photo competition.

Traditional games include hopscotch and a dartboard positioned on the ground.

There will also be singers and musicians and an open mike spot with a DJ tonight.
