‘Stab threat after chase’

A MAN has appeared in court accused of sparking a high-speed police chase while drunk behind the wheel of a stolen car – and then threatening to stab an officer with a screwdriver.

Ashley Dean Prentice, 21, is charged with stealing a Vauxhall Corsa from Tewit Close in Illingworth, Halifax, between February 19 and 20.

He is then alleged to have driven it dangerously around Halifax while drunk, disqualified and without insurance, before threatening PC Baker in Ovenden Way, Ovenden, Halifax.

Prentice, of Langwith Court in Savile Park, Halifax, has been remanded in custody until the next hearing at Calderdale Magistrates Court on March 22.
