A RECORD 16 members of Stainland Lions running club are on their marks for the London Marathon next month.
Ellie May, Aileen Baldwin, Angela Goulden, Chris Tetlow, Julie Hollingdrake, Amanda Speight, Maria Harron, Lucy Thompson, Judith Greenwood, Karen Thorne, Jon Collins, Dave Hutchings, Mark Pigford, Dave Webb, Sandy Gee and Iain Threlkeld will run in the April 22 race.
It is a big year for marathons for the club. It will also be represented in Manchester by Janet Carter, Richard Hand and Jimmy Smith, and in Edinburgh by Phil Tucker and Lee Greenwood.
Further afield, Alan Gibson, Lesley Henderson and Julia Newsome will race in Milan, Mr Gibson, Mr Tetlow and Carol Lord will run in Amsterdam, and Wendy Goodwin jets off to South Africa for the Two Oceans Marathon in Capetown - reputedly the world’s most beautiful race.
Club spokesman John Bassinder said: “A big advantage of belonging to a running club when preparing for these races is the help and advice from seasoned marathon runners, and the encouragement and comradeship from running with like-minded people”
