THE old soldier on the war memorial in Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd, is getting a new head and rifle.
The original head was stolen at some stage and a replacement was quickly carved in time for Remembrance Day.
A maquette of the replacement has been on view in a nearby shop window for several weeks and according to locals it will be a vast improvement.
Jade Smith, who has been working to restore the monument, is organising a rededication ceremony for Sunday, October 16, at 2.30pm.
It will be followed by a 1940s dance and refreshments based on WW1 rations.
She is also producing a booklet which describes the history of the monument and includes stories and photos of the men from the area who gave their lives in two world wars and other conflicts.
