Sunshine, thousands of people and money raised for charity made the 55th Shelf Gala one to remember.
The day began with a colourful gala procession and crowds of people gathered to watch before it reached Shelf Hall Park.
The park was packed with tonnes of stalls and attractions for all the family to enjoy as they soaked up the sun.
Performances from the Imperial Crusaders, the Dance Stars, Street Stars as well as a Falconry display and live music entertainment from local band, The Void, kept crowds entertained throughout the day.
Trevor Priestley, Chairman of the Shelf Gala Committee said that an estimated three to four thousand people turned out to support the gala.
“The day went well, there were all sorts of stalls and the fairground seemed to be busy throughout the day.
“It was a good gala day and we’re pleased with how it turned despite other eventsalso going on, as it was a busy weekend nationally.”
“The residents did us well.”
Adding a touch of style to the day was 11-year-old Megan Horner, who as Gala Queen for 2014 oficially opened the day’s proceedings and the Mayor of Calderdale, Pat Allen, also visited the gala to judge the procession floats.
The gala was a great day out for kids who could enjoy the masses of fun on offer, including a playground and fairground, a painting competition as well as a five-a-side football competition, whilst parents could kick back and relax with a refreshing drink or a calming cuppa in the beer and tea tents.
Fantastic fancy dress also added a splash of fun to the day with children from St Michael and All Angels Primary School dressing in a ‘We Love Yorkshire’ theme and pupils from Shelf Junior and Infant School enjoying and ‘Under the Sea’ theme.
The money raised from the gala is yet to be added up, but funds raised will be donated local charities and organisations.
