Supporters' trusts umbrella group urges Halifax Town consortium to speak to community
SUPPORTERS Direct has urged the consortium to talk with the Calderdale community as Halifax Town teeters on the brink of oblivion.
Businessmen David Bosomworth, Bobby Ham and Stuart Peacock have been working behind closed doors to try and secure a future for the troubled club and have left fans in the dark.
SD was formed to help establish supporters' trusts and deliver democratic representation at football clubs.
Its spokesman Kevin Rye said the silence from the businessmen is in stark contrast to what SD stands for.
"The Halifax Town Supporters' Trust wants to talk to these people and the only way forward is by everybody coming together," said Mr Rye.
"People might have to swallow pride and there might have to be compromise.
"The solution is on the doorstep and that is the community of Calderdale."
Mr Rye said Halifax Town was a typical example of a football club which regularly falls into financial difficulties despite the good intentions of directors.
"Stop repeating the experiment when you know what the outcome will be," he said.
SD is the umbrella group for supporters' trusts and has been running seven years.
There are now 13 clubs run by trusts including Stockport, Brentford and Notts County. They all have rules and objectives to meet and Mr Rye said it often results in better commercial exploitation of the business community.
SD's expertise would be available to the Halifax Town Supporters' Trust if it was left to start a new club.
