A BLAZE that ravaged a Halifax takeaway is being treated as arson.

Police are hunting a man seen running from The Passion in King Cross Road, King Cross, after it was torched at around 4am on Saturday.

The front window was broken leaving shattered glass strewn in the street.

Firefighters said the shop was severely damaged by the fire but nobody was hurt.

Crews from Halifax and Illingworth battled the flames for an hour and a half.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the building which was empty when the fire started.

They managed to contain the flames to the ground floor but fans had to be used to clear smoke from the upper floors.

King Cross Road was temporarily closed while crews dealt with the incident.

Police described the suspect as Asian, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build and wearing a black cardigan and black trousers.
