Taking Flight puppets wing in

PUPPETRY, dance, storytelling and live music will combine to create a spellbinding original performance.

Taking Flight will explore the theme of emigration, displacement and the search for home.

Todmorden-based puppet troupe Thingumajig Theatre, famed for its part in events such as the Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade, has put it together by collecting stories of people who have moved into the area from a great distance.

Artists who have already stepped forward to perform include Sonya Moorhead, from Canopy, Matthanee Gig Nilavongse, of Hanuman Gallery and Thai Cuisine, musicians Daniel Bath and Razwan Sarwar, Barka – St Joseph’s Primary School’s Polish and English choir – and poet Siddique Mirpuri, who will be performing in Punjabi, Urdu and English.

The free performance has been made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

It starts at 8pm tomorrow and also on Saturday May 7 at Todmorden Unitarian Church.
