A 16-year-old girl is today in hospital with serious injuries after her horse bolted.
The young rider was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by air ambulance but police say her injuries are not life threatening.
A vet declared the horse dead at the scene of the accident near the Freudenberg site on Ellistones Lane, Greetland.
The girl was out on the horse at around 5pm yesterday when it was startled, possibly by a duck.
The horse leapt over a barrier at the side of the road and fell six feet into a stream on the other side. The girl was thrown off.
People heard the commotion at and the emergency services were called to take the girl to hospital.
The horse was lifted from the stream using a hydraulic wagon and removed.
