POLICE are urging people in Calderdale not to give thieves an easy ride this summer.
They say warm weather can mean people leave their windows open but warn that can be an open invitation to an opportunistic thief.
Thieves can be in and out of a house in a matter of seconds, they say, taking valuable goods with them.
Calderdale CID’s Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson said: “We get a lot of calls from people who have valuable and or sentimental items stolen and when we ask how they got in they tell us through an unlocked door or window.
“By simply locking your door and window you provide a potential thief with a barrier to get through and more times than not that will mean they go away empty handed. We would also advise that people leave their car keys out of view and in a secure place, away from doors.”
