DORIS Greenwood won this iron at bingo more than four decades ago – and incredibly it is still working.
The Sunbeam Ironmaster was a prize at a game Mrs Greenwood, from Clifton, won back in 1965.
And she uses it on an ironing board that – having been bought in 1954 from a catalogue – is even older.
Mrs Greenwood, 85, said: “I had a new element fitted about 20 years ago. By that time this type of iron was becoming obsolete so we had a bit of trouble getting it.
“We managed to find one in a little shop in Southowram.”
Mrs Greenwood contacted the Courier after seeing the story about a tumble dryer which is still working 35 years after it was bought.
Keith Edge, from Boothtown in Halifax, bought the machine in 1976.
