St Peter’s Church in Sowerby are encouraging people to take part in ‘Let Your Love Shine’ to raise money for the Sowerby christmas lights.

They have created a tree of remembrance and people can pay £1 to write a message to a loved one on a bauble, which will then be placed on the tree.

All money raised will go towards the switch on of the christmas lights, which cost approximately £1,500 to put up.

Revd Jeanette Roberts said: “If we can all manage to pay £1, as those lights go on it’ll be all those messages of love and our loved ones which will be lighting up our village.

“We’d also like to give our grateful thanks to our local Tesco in Sowerby Bridge for donating the tree and helping with this community initiative.”

The church will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 2.30-4pm for people to write their messages. and the lights will be switched on at the church’s St Nicholas Day service on Friday, December 5.
