The nominations are in for this year’s Champion Children awards and this weekend, Calderdale’s brave, generous, courageous and thoughtful youngsters will be recognised for the amazing things they have done.

Run by the Halifax Courier Group, the awards aim to give something back to those who have helped friends, family or neighbours, courageous children who have battled adversity or illness and those miniature heroes who have sprung to action in times of crisis.

All of our champion children are an inspiration, whether they have fought against illness, raised thousands of pounds for charity or made a difference in their community.

And to mark their achievements, every child will receive a special Christmas treat at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Victoria Theatre on Saturday.

There will be festive fun as the cast of this year’s Christmas pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, hand out awards to the well-deserving youngsters in front of their family, friends and loved ones.

The group will then enjoy a matinee performance of the show.

It promises to be an event to remember and a fantastic way to show how proud we are of our little heroes.

To read about the fantastic children recognised in the awards and to see pictures of the day, pick up a copy of next week’s paper for a special 8-page pullout.

The event has kindly been sponsored by Victoria Theatre, Halifax Curtains and Blinds, Walker Butchers, Stone Dam Furniture, Harveys, Nestle, Kip McGrath, Marshalls, HX Trade Windows, Brighouse Dry Cleaners, Ramsden Solicitors, Popkidz, Hepworth Honda, Tag Tool hire, Emotions Florist, Dickies Tiles, Angela Viney, Robert Wade Cars, Angel Care, Halifax Chiropractic, Arrow Coaches, Eclipse Energy.
