A MAN who took a saw from a builder’s trailer has been told to repay him £650.
Kevin Clayton, 31, from Denholme, stole a Stihl saw from a man working in Upper Lane, Northowram.
Lisa Beadle, prosecuting at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court, said: “The complainant checked CCTV which showed the defendant reversing into the driveway and taking the saw.”
Clayton admitted taking it to police.
Paul Milner, representing Clayton, said: “It’s an opportunist crime. “He knows he shouldn’t have taken it.
“He was tempted by the situation.”
Clayton was given a 12 month community order with 12 months supervision and told to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
He was ordered to reimburse the builder who had been unable to claim for the lost tool on his insurance.
