A SERIES of high profile performers have been booked to take part in the Brighouse Diamond Jubilee Arts Festival this year.
The festival takes place from August 23 to 31 and the latest signing is the Ian Macmillan Orchestra, which will appear at the Methodist Church on August 24.
It joins the Yorkshire Saxophone Choir at the Salvation Army Citadel on August 23 and the Spirit of Harmony Barbershop Group which rounds off the week at the Methodist Church.
There will also be solo performances from Chris Illingworth and Peter Cain at the Smith Art Gallery and A Touch of Wind, a woodwind trio, which revisit the town on August 28.
Also Calderdale Council officers have agreed to organise poetry readings at Brighouse Library and bring the Calderdale Open Art Exhibition to the Art Gallery.
During the week there will be a variety of workshops and activities for people of all ages and a party in the park on the Sunday, with activities for all the family.
Some grant funding has already been secured to help stage the event and number of generous Brighouse businesses have boosted the festival with sponsorship.
Waterfront Lodge Prego’s restaurant is holding ‘A Night at the Opera’ with Rachel Crisp who has been sponsored by Towngate PLC.
Rokt Climbing Gym has agreed to fund an installation for the silos at Sugdens Mill.
Tom Ratcliffe, from the Brighouse Diamond Jubilee Arts Festival committee, said: “We are hoping to encourage a number of fringe events so if you are a street musician, juggler, workshop leader, artist, poet and you want to offer something then we want to hear from you.
“Like all events of this kind, sponsorship and volunteering form an integral part of keeping the cost low and ultimately ticket prices sensible.
“Therefore, if you are out there wanting to become involved get in touch.
“Whether you want to quietly offer sponsorship in hard cash or you feel that you would like to volunteer to steward one or more of the events, or you might be able to offer facilities such as PA systems, as a food vendor for the Party in the Park, a free marquee or simply be on call as an extra body, contact us on 01484 718324.”
