A West Yorkshire filmmaker has won on the international stage at the prestigious Videographer Awards, hosted in the USA.

James Mellor, of Ripponden, has worked in the film and television industry for more than 15 years and has lent his expertise to productions including ‘Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban’ as well as Yorkshire’s very own ‘Last of the Summer Wine’.

James, 36, who set up the Huddersfield-based production company Rainbow Trout Films in 2010, entered two films for the Videographer Awards competition, with content produced for two separate international Yahoo! events.

Winning an Award of Distinction for the Yahoo! European Hack Event in London and an Honorable Mention for the Yahoo! Israel event in Tel Aviv, James couldn’t be happier.

“I’m quite amazed because it’s the first time I’ve won,” he said.

“I entered on a whim and thought I’d give it a go, but never in a million years thought I would win.

“The trophy will definitely have pride of place when I receive it.”

The Videographer Awards are one of the most coveted in the video industry and celebrate the best of creative work from industry professionals,

There were around 1,500 entries from throughout the United States and several other countries in this year’s competition.

Thrilled to have won both awards, James now aims to further expand the company.

James added: “I’m over the moon, it’s quite a small production company and I’m looking to expand so I’m hoping that this will act as a springboard for doing that.”

Now, James is planning to collaborate with a budding filmmaker to make a sci-fi horror film.

The film is currently in development and will be shot in Yorkshire.
