STAFF at Marshalls based at Brookfoot have completed a series of Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications.

Halifax businessman Roger Harvey, who is also a former chairman of Action Halifax, presented graduation certificates to managers and team leaders.

“This is a really terrific achievement and I must commend the forward thinking approach of Operations Manager Chris Georgiou in giving the whole team this opportunity to develop,” said Mr Harvey.

“It’s also good to see that Marshalls, whose staff started on this process through the Future Leaders programme run by Melanie Greenwood at Action Halifax before its closure, have sought to continue their development with Melanie through her new business, Smart People Training & Development.”

Business Unit Manager Richard Marshall said: “An enormous amount of hard work and dedication has gone into this, which has included assignments carried out in their own time, and they should all be as proud of their achievements as we are.

“We also recognise the contribution that their success will make to the future of Marshalls.”

Having completed ILM Leadership & Management Level 5 himself, Chris Georgiou recognised the value that would be brought to the organisation by his managers and team leaders also participating in ILM training.

“In particular, I identified that we needed to look at the way managers and team leaders interacted with each other and their teams.

“We are now using a programme of management development delivered by Smart People and accredited by the ILM to make fundamental changes to the culture within Marshalls’ Brookfoot Division.”

During the training the managers and team leaders worked on the skills needed to manage their teams effectively through the harsh economic climate, maintain a happy workforce and achieve organisational goals.

Some of the outcomes already achieved include, increased confidence in dealing with every day situations more appropriately; increased understanding of team strengths and greater trust among team members; improved communications between teams; and improvements in overall operational efficiencies.
