Cutting cheap rail fares?

WAYS of reducing by a quarter the £18 million subsidy for West Yorkshire bus and rail services will be discussed by councillors on Friday.

Metro’s Integrated Transport Authority Executive Board will consider raising the cost of rail concessions for over 60s from 50p to half-fare, from January.

Significant reductions in accommodation and staffing costs have already been made, which will make finding further savings more difficult, according to Metro chairman James Lewis.
