THE driver of this car had a lucky escape after a tree came crashing down.
The man, in his 50s, was alone in the Volkswagen Bora in Bramston Street, Rastrick, at 4.30pm on Monday when the accident happened.
Firefighters from Elland and Brighouse were called to the scene and said the driver was incredibly lucky that the tree had fallen on the passenger side of the car.
He walked away from the wreckage with no injuries.
The front windscreen was smashed and much of the front end of the car was left mangled by the six- ton tree.
The road was blocked and firefighters said it was fortunate there were no pedestrians or other vehicles passing at the time.
Emergency services arrived on the scene and closed the road while they waited for Highways Agency staff to come and move the fallen boughs.
The accident came in high winds which battered Calderdale with some gusts of more than 40mph.
They were accompanied by heavy showers.
The rest of the week looks calmer, with some sunshine and temperatures in the teens expected over the weekened.
