Members of the Sowerby Village community have planted a Christmas tree to bring joy for the festive season for years to come.

The one metre Nordman fir tree, which was donated by local firm Tommy Topsoil, was planted in the community garden opposite St Peter’s Church. The tree is expected to grow a metre every year and the community hope that it will become an integral part of the festive season, so that they can decorate it every year.

George Serban, a police community support officer, above, said: “I think it’s a nice idea for everywhere to start planting a tree that can be used for Christmas.”
