The funeral took place today of a well-known motorcyclist whose death has devastated many in Calderdale.
Russell White, aged 55, was killed in a road accident at Canal Road, Frizinghall, Bradford, on December 16.
His Yamaha bike was in collision with a red Kia Picanto at the junction with Frizinghall Road around 4.50 pm.
He was born in Bradford and moved to Calderdale in the 1960s with his family and attended Sowerby Bridge Grammar School.
His parents ran the Bowling Green pub in Halifax and Alma Inn at Mill Bank.
Mr White worked for 20 years as a roadmarker throughout Calderdale and wider afield and in recent years had been employed by Kirklees Council.
Earlier this year he moved to Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales with his wife, Nicky, and their three-year-old son, Jake.
Nicky said Russell was a larger-than-life character who was loved by many.
The couple bought their cottage in Kettlewell in 2002 and built-up a large circle of close friends.
“He will be warmly remembered as the heart, life and soul of every occasion and for all the laughter and happy times he brought to all who knew him,” she said.
“He had been commuting from Kettlewell since July and never complained and had been riding bikes since he was a teenager.”
She said many friends were unable to attend work on hearing about the accident.
His work manager Wayne Bastow said Russell was well respected and an expert in his job.
“All his colleagues are absolutely blown away to bits by what has happened,” he said.
“It has hit us all hard. He was well thought of and known across the council.
“It’s ironic he spent his life making roads safer and ends up dying on one.”
In a matter of minutes his colleagues raised over £100 for the Biker Relief Foundation in his memory.
Russ also leaves a large family which includes two other children, seven grandchildren, his mother and stepfather Shirley and Alan Taffs who live in Spain, two sisters and a brother.
His body was taken to the Providence Chapel of Rest, Elland, for relatives and friends to pay their respects.
The funeral was today at Kettlewell Village Hall, and Nicky penned this farewell:
Russ White - My beloved husbear, my best friend, my world. Loving father to our little miracle Jake. So many happy memories in far too few years together. All my love. Always. Nicky xxxxx
