TWO out of every three cocaine swabs made in pubs, bars and clubs in Halifax and Sowerby Bridge came back positive.
Officers from Halifax Central neighbourhood policing team carried out the checks on surfaces in the toilets of licensed premises across the two towns.
Now the police are working with staff at the pubs, bars and clubs to prevent drug use, offering advice and arresting offenders.
Sergeant Mick Richmond, from the team, said they want to make sure people can enjoy a safe night out in Halifax and Sowerby Bridge, and that drug and alcohol mis-use are not causing crime or anti-social behaviour.
“We will arrest anyone found to be in possession of drugs,” he warned.
Anyone with information about drug use in their area should call their neighbourhood policing team on 0845 6060606. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
