Over 50 firefighters spent two and a half hours battling with a fire near Ripponden this afternoon.
They were called to the blaze in moorland at Soyland at 1.46pm.
Ten appliances were called to deal with the fire over two square kilometres.
Because there was no water there, firefighters used beaters to get it under control before it was eventually extinguished at 4.25pm.
Watch Commander Mick Pollard of Elland fire station praised the work of the crews
“It was a really good effort by all the fire fighters involved in arduous conditions,” he said.
“They used beaters to put the fire out and managed to stop it spreading further.”
The cause of the fire is unknown.
The public are being warned that the prolonged dry weather has left the moor very dry and that they should take care with smoke materials.
