Police say inquiries are continuing after officers carrying assault rifles and in full body armour closed off Lister Lane and Milton Place, Halifax, yesterday searching for guns and drugs.

West Yorkshire Police’s helicopter was out helping officers as they raided two buildings just before 4pm.

Traffic was stopped and neighbours poured out of their houses to see what was going on.Police sniffer dogs were seen going inside a property with an armed response team outside the door.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: ““Just before 4pm, officers executed search warrants at two addresses in ther Milton Place area of Halifax.

“They carried out extensive searches of the properties and inquiries are ongoing.

“The police helicopter supported the operation. No arrests were made, no drugs or firearms were found and no shots were fired.”
