Bin and recycling collections are being carried out in Calderdale today but teams have been instructed not to take any risks and only travel on roads whic hare cleared of snow and ice.

The council says the prevailing weather conditions mean that any missed bin or recycling collections due to be carried out over the last few days that have not yet been done are unlikely now.

They say all excess waste and recycling materials will be removed on those missed’s next scheduled visit.

Bin and recycling collection teams are working as normal tomorrow but not on Easter Monday. All collections will then be one day late until Saturday, April 6.

All five household waste recycling centres are open today and will remain open over the Easter weekend, operating Sunday hours on Easter Sunday and Monday only.

Meawhile the council is advising people not to venture out where snow and drifts are potentially deep as they can be dangerous and exhausting to walk thrugh.

It says all teams, gritters, ploughs and snow blowers continue to work and will do so over the Easter weekend and into next week.

There are a number of road closures which are on the precautionary salting routes. At present the following roads are confirmed closed:
