An amber warning is in place for Yorkshire, and more snow is forecast for around 9pm tonight as well as ice.

Some bus services reported problems earlier as heavy snow fell and there have been difficult driving conditions reported on the M62.

Calderdale Council says its highways team are in touch directly with the Met Office and are monitoring road temperatures – currently hovering around the freezing mark.

All gritting crews have been out since 7am, they say, and the crews will stay out as long as the snow continues to fall, continually gritting throughout the day.

Police are urging drivers to only make journeys in the snow that are necessary and to make sure they carry warm clothing, blankets and a flask in case they get stuck.

On Twitter, many people have been posting their experiences.

Berni said: “#snowwatch its snowing I can see people rushing to Tesco to panic buy milk bread soup and wine #alltheessentials”.

Brighouse 247 said: “Big snow flakes continuing to fall here in Brighouse - showing signs of starting to stick on roads and pavements. Next hour key.”

A light covering of snow fell across the district last night followed by heavy coverage earlier today.

The snow has also been causing disruption at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Accumulations of up to 10cm were forecast for today, possibly to 15cm over high ground.
