Vandals overpower Mosborough

Mosborough 0 Halifax Vandals 24 A STUBBORN home side eventually succumbed to Halifax Vandals who grabbed a win which keeps their Yorkshire Five A promotion challenge very much alive.

Determined defence from Mosborough, along with missed chances by the visitors, meant Vandals could only edge to a narrow 6-0 lead at the break.

But they stuck to their task and eventually proved to have enough in the tank to ease away in the second half to complete a league double over the struggling homesters.

Vandals started in lively fashion, but Leon Bailey went into touch just short and the chance was gone.

Mosborough then enjoyed a spell of pressure and it took some strong defence and a fine clearance by Gareth Jones to keep the scoresheet blank.

The wind and rain hampered both sides' efforts but Zimbabwean Tinashe Panyangara eventually gave the visitors the lead when he kicked a penalty, and he repeated his feat minutes later to give his side a 6-0 half time lead.

Vandals started the second half with a period of concerted pressure and though Mosborough kept them out for a time with some last ditch defence, the ball was eventually moved wide and Jones went over for the opening try.

The visitors were now dominating with Tom Calderbank and Mat Farah prominent, and after another Panyangara penalty had extended the lead, they broke again when a fine move involving Jon Isherwood and Panyangara was finished by a Mark Lockwood touchdown.

And victory was assured when Kaveh Bahadori broke down the blind side and set up Farrah who went over to make it 24-0.

With the win in the bag, Ben Bentley, Andy Oldfield and Andrew Drake were thrown on and though Vandals could not add to their tally in the closing minutes, they will still be well pleased with their efforts.

VANDALS' development XV lost 16-5 at home to Mosborough II.
